Exploring The Nuance (within Your Black And White)

A lot of us like to think that we don’t think black or white when it comes to nutrition (or our business or anything, really)

We think we look at the evidence and the sound theory and then make educated and informed decisions and recommendations

But we underestimate how hard it is to do this.

Because more often than not we have an emotional reaction to information, it creates a negative emotional response and then we think up a reason why we don’t agree with it.

A lot of coaches think weight loss is fine for people, and helping them with it is good

But they wouldn’t be ok with paying people to lose weight (despite research showing financial and non-financial incentives with coaching, do better than coaching on their own)

Or they don’t agree with making people feel scared about food

Despite fear-based campaigns like an NYC example where a man drank congealed fat from a soda can, being shown to reduce sugary drink intake

Or they don’t think people should use GLP-1 medication, they think they should just make better choices?

Even though GLP-1 medication is driving down fast food company stock prices, forcing them to pivot to, guess what? Better food choices on their menu.

I’m not saying that everyone should be paid to lose weight, scared into reducing fat and should forget personal responsibility in favour of using powerful medication

Yet it’s worth considering all of the options of things we can do, to broaden our thinking and our own creativity.

If we’re going to explore the nuance - we have to explore all the nuance, right?
