Optimised For Marketing, As Well As Coaching

Go and read your own onboarding questionnaire back - I’d put money on nearly all of it being goals.

What do you want to achieve? Where do you want to be in twelve weeks? What would make this a success for you?

These questions are absolutely fine, and clients will give you an answer to them easily because a goal describes the future.

However, asking them how they feel right now and why they want to make a change will normally lead to some sort of confession - ‘I don’t like how I look in photos’

Without feeling like you need to twist the knife, the second one is probably more helpful.

The reality is you run a coaching business, which means that a lot of your data gathering is for coaching, but also for marketing

Things like onboarding forms, inquiry forms, signup forms, initial consultation calls

The words your client uses about their own problems are the words that sell to the next 20 people who are in the same niche

Written down that probably reads a bit grubby.

But realistically, you’re not manipulating people.

You’re using the same information for coaching as you are for marketing. If you can’t market well, you can’t help more people.

It’s important to know that often your clients aren’t holding back from you. It’s just that most of what people feel about their own body they’ve never really put into words in the first place.

And the solution for you isn’t to ask the perfect question, it’s probably to ask similar questions multiple times to allow people to give you the information you want.

With the added benefit of giving you the answer in two or three different ways, thus giving you at least three pieces of content.

As well as this, having multiple ways for people to give you these answers guarantees that you’ll probably get the real version, because it might be that they only give you their real version after they’ve been on the call with you and feel like they can trust you with what is quite intimate information.

Or it might be that they wouldn’t tell you on a sales call, but they’re more happy to write things down.

Or they might be more happy to tell you person to person, rather than feel like they’re just typing into a formal spreadsheet.

Go through your forms and make sure they’re optimised for marketing, as well as coaching
