This Is Where We Are, This Is My Bold Prediction Of Where We're Going
I’ve just finished a couple of books that I’ve been reading ‘for fun’
(‘Fun’ reading, to me means anything not directly related to work.)
The two books were ‘Nuclear War’ by Annie Jacobsen and ‘If Russia Wins’ by Carlo Masala
These are scenarios based on if Russia successfully invade Ukraine (bad) and if someone starts nuclear war against the US (very bad, everyone dies horribly)
I’m not saying read these (Definitely don’t read the Russia one just before they threaten the UK - seeing that on the news just after did put me off my Cheerios)
Think about the expertise needed to give insight on both right now, and the future.
I might be biased on this - I’m interested in new topics like AI, GLP-1s etc and so want to research, commentate and debate on these things. Am I a magpie chasing a shiny thing? Possibly.
However what I will say is that if you want to demonstrate your authority, credibility and expertise in an area?
Posting occasionally about the direction of travel in your industry/topic/niche - is not a bad thing.
Everyone I admire (and spend money to get help from) does this in some way.
To opine on the future, you have to understand the past and the present.
You need to know your topic from the minutiae of the day to day for one person
All the way to the zoomed out macro economics, politics, psychology and sociology that influences those day to day behaviours.
I don’t think this should be every piece of content if you’re looking to get coaching clients
(If you’re optimising for coaching - if you want to speak more, more of this is definitely a helpful thing, in my experience)
But if you want to show authority? Resist the urge to just get a huge following through IG hacks, or shouting about your ‘RESULTS’ like no other coach has ever helped someone
And guide your audience through what the next few years could look like for them personally, their demographic or the wider population - and maybe even how your work stops that reality for them.
It’s fun for you, it’s interesting to them - and it takes time and effort, which means you’ll be doing something 90% of coaches won’t be arsed to do.
