A Shoutout From Richard Osman

He talked about how one thing happening completely changed the trajectory of his career.

That one thing for him?

Being shouted out on The Rest Is Entertainment with Richard Osman, as part of a segue where they were deciding whether comedians need television anymore or whether they can have a career without going on television, and what that means for industry etc etc.

It made me think about how he has done loads of clips online.

He’s done Edinburgh shows.

He’s done comedy specials, short form, long form.

And then one person noticing one time completely changed the trajectory of his career.

Now, I don’t think that you’re going to have Richard Osman talking about you, nor do I think that’s necessarily essential for coaches

But I think it’s important that when you post content and say, ‘Only a few hundred people looked at this or my engagement was down’

And assume that it is therefore pointless.

That you also remember that it takes one person with some influence in one particular sphere to completely change your trajectory.

Where I am at now, I can put down two, five or six moments

Where someone noticed what I was doing - they worked with me in some capacity

I can literally attribute £200k+ across my career to those random bits of luck and serendipity

They are the reason that I am much further along in my career now than I would be if I just followed a linear path.

This is the reminder that we need to keep posting and understand that part of the reason that we are putting ourselves out there is to just expose ourselves to this kind of luck.
