Creating A Signal
Spotify wrapped is probably the most universally shared signal by people on social media - it’s a thing
I don’t know this, but I would be willing to put money on the fact that people will change their listening habits in some way, so that their wrapped data is more shareable and it signals something to others that is perceived to be desirable
(Hmmm… a creative way to change behaviour. I wonder if that’s of interest to coaches…)
Others of us are of course, less lucky with our Spotify wrapped - and the most played song is 7 hours of ‘Calming music for dogs’
But in allowing us to share the data, they’ve taken it beyond music, and made it about signalling something about ourselves
Some coaches will know that the app Everfit does something similar - it tells us how many animals one has lifted in a session
Which takes a boring metric like total kilograms lifted
And makes it a fun shareable thing, that allows us to signal what primal alphas we all are.
I’ve even seen coaches resharing client stories that say ‘Great session thanks to my coach X, and their cool app even tells me I’ve benched 20 hyenas - hopefully hit the 50 panda mark next month!’ or similar
Isn’t it funny how coaches share their Spotify wrapped Maybe use apps like Everfit, and get cool feedback Share Duolingo streaks, Strava Maps, Goodreads ‘Year in Books’
… and then do nothing with ‘Why this works’ and ‘how else can I do this?’
If you can turn a boring metric in your niche into something playful, surprising, or status-heavy, you’ll have clients doing your marketing for you.
