Don't Need The Business
I’m going to give you the most obvious business tip ever
So obvious that no one talks about it - but I think we should talk about it more as a ‘goal’
Be in a position where you don’t need the business.
I think it’s obvious, but also for a lot of people it feels far away and hard to picture.
To give an example - an old employer asked me to run their webinars on an ad hoc basis.
I said yes off the bat - I like speaking, I always get good feedback when I run their webinars for them.
Then the number came back and we weren’t in the same postcode as to what I should be compensated for that task.
And I KNOW that old me would have taken it.
Old me said yes to all work, all the time, at any rate. The fee on the table was the only number that mattered.
New me - and I say this with full awareness of how fortunate I am - doesn’t need it.
The hassle isn’t worth the money, so the answer is no.
That’s a tiny example of a much wider point.
The coaching industry has spent years telling coaches to operate from an abundance mindset.
The best way to have an abundance mindset is to have actual abundance.
And actual abundance doesn’t have to mean earning loads of money.
Sometimes it means not relying on credit. Sometimes it’s investing 5-10% of every month’s income.
It’s having a pension.
Knowing what’s coming in and what’s going out. Treating outflow with the same respect as inflow.
Get to a place of abundance, live within those means and fight to stay there as long as you possibly can.
