Stop Boring On About Hating Social Media
I see loads of coaches moaning about social media.
And I’ll be honest - I moan about it too (so this is as much to me as to anyone else)
I think there are a lot of things wrong with social media - but they’re more to do with what it’s doing to us as people, rather than business owners.
From a business perspective? I don’t understand the moaning.
The algorithm changed. Engagement is down. It’s so much work. Nobody sees my posts anymore.
Fair enough - it is work.
And the platforms are designed to keep you scrolling, not help you build a business.
But.
You have a free global distribution system that lets you share your thinking with anyone who resonates with it.
You can write a post, film a video, share an idea - and if it’s good enough, people find you and pay you for your expertise.
No physical space rent. No inventory. No permission from gatekeepers.
Just your ideas and people who value them.
The fitness industry didn’t always have this.
Now? Every coach has the shot.
And the really good bit?
You don’t even need social media to build a business if you don’t want it.
You’ve got email, corporate, in person events, referrals, partnerships, communities.
Loads of successful coaches barely post.
Social media is an option, not a requirement.
So when I hear coaches complaining about Instagram like it’s oppressing them - whilst simultaneously choosing to use it as their primary business channel?
It does wind me up.
You’re not entitled to anyone’s attention. You have to earn it.
And if you don’t want to play that game? Build differently.
But don’t pretend you’re stuck.
