Where Are You At With AI

I’ve been pondering the different attitudes towards AI at the moment

Some people love it, some people hate it, a few people are maybe indifferent

If we remove the people who dislike it for reasons related to ‘is it stealing creative work’ and ‘is it killing the planet’

(Which I think is a smaller group of people than we’re led to believe, and also those people aren’t always that informed on the argument they’re angry about)

I actually think for everyone else, their attitude to AI is an interesting indicator as to where they’re at

It holds a mirror up to how they feel more generally

I think you either see the potential in it, and you’re approaching it with almost childlike wonder thinking ‘How can it just do this, there’s so many things I could use this for’

OR

‘Oh God not another thing I have to try and learn, get to grips with - but then if I don’t then I’m going to fall even further behind and I don’t want that’

It’s reflecting someone’s internal state

Whether you’re currently operating with an abundance mindset, or a scarcity mindset

I think one reason I embraced AI so early, despite being non-technical

Was that it coincided with being in such a good place with work

I really felt I had something to offer, something different to other people and a number of projects that were exciting to me and allowed me to add a lot of value to the lives of other people

So when something comes along that allows me to do more of that, or present that in a different way, or improve my own skills and knowledge to do more of that?

Why would I not be excited by that proposition?

There’s no moral to this story, other than prompting you to reflect not just on AI but on things in general

If you find yourself saying ‘Oh god and now I do this, or now I have to learn that’ then it’s worth pausing and making sure that you’re happy with your plan, direction and life in general
