Lick The Yoghurt Lid
On a recent Modern Wisdom podcast, Chris Williamson talks about how his friend was doing a podcast with one of his favourite authors ever.
This guy was huge, one of the biggest names in literature, and he revered him and really looked up to him.
The podcast was at the author’s house, and he said, ‘Do you mind if I go get a yoghurt?’
And he said, ‘not at all.’
The author came back with the yoghurt, sat down before the podcast started
Took the lid off the yoghurt, brought it to his face and licked all of the yoghurt off the lid.
Williamson mentioned how his friend was crushed by this display of normality, how it kind of ruined all of the wonder and mystery around him, to find out he was just a normal bloke who licks the yoghurt off the lid.
For your audience, that’s exactly what you should do.
Too many people in the fitness industry think they need to be the font of all knowledge, an untouchable Adonis who towers over everyone else but is gracious enough to teach them the lessons.
They come to us from on high, with not a hint of imperfection or sense that they’re one of us.
That’s not the case.
You need to be human, authentic, realistic.
Resonate with people as in ‘I am just the same as you, I’m just a little bit further along with this thing we’re all trying to achieve.’
If you can do that, you will connect with more people and more people will adopt the identity that you have and want to work with you to achieve it.
Lick the yoghurt lid.
