You're Fired.
Two things have me thinking about firing at the moment.
The first is just how much my 3 month old son looks like Lord Sugar at the moment
The second is an interesting insight from a podcast that discussed how America might be better off than in Europe in a lot of ways, because of how easy it is to sack staff.
Being sacked is pretty shit for the individual (I imagine, I’ve not been let go from a job thus far in my career), but it can be a great thing for a company.
The average cost of firing an employee in the US is about 7 months of their pay, whereas Germany it’s 31 and France it’s 38.
What this means for European companies is it’s just a huge risk to hire, because if you get it wrong it’s going to leave a big old hole in your pocket.
In the US - you take a risk, you hire, it works out - great! If not, it’s fine.
Most coaches run companies like Europeans - ‘I can’t take a risk here, because if it goes ‘wrong’ then I might not recover for 3 years’.
Whereas small to medium businesses can’t afford to be like that.
They need to run like a US company - move fast, move often.
Take big risks, accept some failures along the way
